Rimowa co-CEO Alexandre Arnault has published an Instagram image featuring two pieces of black luggage featuring Off-White signature design details. Shot side by side, one reads “personal” and the second, “belongings.” The caption of the image reads, “Hey [Virgil Abloh] coming for you straight out of the factory!”
Off-White designer Virgil Abloh hasn’t posted anything to his own accounts, though he might be focused on his upcoming Paris Fashion Week presentation, which includes a Jimmy Choo collaboration.
French luxury group LVMH purchased an 80 percent stake of the German-based Rimowa for $716 million in October 2016. LVMH CEO Bernard Arnault appointed his 24-year-old son Alexandre Arnault as co-CEO of Rimowa, a role he shares with Dieter Morszeck, the grandson of the company’s founder.
No doubt the collaboration will further fuel rumors that LVMH is eyeing adding Off-White to its stable of 70 brands. As well there is also talk about Abloh taking the place of Louis Vuitton menswear designer Kim Jones, who is rumored to be mulling the head design role at Versace.
The rumors have been helped along by Abloh’s friendship with LVMH top dogs, reflected at his fall 2017 presentation, which was attended by Alexandre Arnault, along with Jones, Louis Vuitton’s menswear creative director and Michael Burke, CEO of Louis Vuitton.
