Wu-Tang founder RZA paid a visit to “The Breakfast Club” this week, and in the exchange admitted he lied about what went down in the confrontation between Azealia Banks and Russell Crowe in a hotel room dust up last year in October.
In response to show host Charlamagne the God, who quizzed him on the event, RZA said, “He spit at her.” RZA added that the spit didn’t land on Banks and after the fight, Crowe apologized to RZA.
For Banks, who is currently on tour, the confession was too little too late. On Snapchat, she wrote, “Nobody understands how badly I wanted to die the moment RZA lied and told the world I deserved to be spat [on]. People laughed at me and said I lied. No one understands the amount of pain that came with and after that incident.”
She added, “RZA needs to stop talking about me in the media. Until he is read to apologize to me publicly, he can go back to sucking Russell Crowe’s dick for invites to Hollywood parties. RZA, I hope you drop dead.”
When news of the fight emerged, Banks was adamant that Crowe had and assaulted her and filed a police report, which was eventually dropped. In a Facebook post, Banks wrote, “To recap my night, I went to a party at Russell Crowe’s suite, at which he called me a nigger, choked me, threw me out and spat at me. Last night was one of the hardest nights of sleep I’ve had in a long time. The men in the room allowed it to happen. I feel terrible today.”
Crowe never commented on the charge, but RZA backed him up on Facebook, writing, “Azealia threaten to cut a girl in the face with a glass, then actually grabs a glass and physically attacks for no logical reason. Russell blocked the attack and expelled her from the suite.”
The plot twist of this confessional is the recent announcement that Loves Beat Rhymes, a film directed by RZA and starring Banks will at long last be released on December 1, 2017.
The line of questions related to Banks came up when the conversation turned to the movie and RZA devoted quite a bit of air time to bigging up Banks’ talent and performance. Given the timing, one can’t help but wonder if RZA is attempting to bury the hatchet in the name of bringing Banks in on promoting the movie.
