Brooklyn-born rapper and Pro Era head Joey Bada$$ caused a stir this week with a soulful cover of Prince’s 1984 single “When Doves Cry,” a rendition he dubbed “When Thugs Die.” The performance was part of Australian station Triple J’s “Like a Version” series, which features a backing band complete with a horn section.
Joey also performed “Temptation,” a track from his sophomore album, All-Amerikkkan Bada$$, which he’s touring in support of. Joey wraps on the tour on January 27, 2018 in Shanghai, China.
Joey turned 23 while in Australia with his January 20th birth date arriving a day ahead of U.S. time. In celebration of the day, he released “King to a God,” featuring Pro Era member Dessy Hinds.
