Rapper Remy Ma shouts out all her chocolate sisters in “Melanin Magic (Pretty Brown),” a visual featuring Chris Brown. If the song sounds familiar, it’s because the beat and lyrics reference Mint Condition’s popular 1991 r&b single, “Breaking my Heart (Pretty Brown Eyes).”
As part of the drop, Remy wrote a letter on Instagram to her fans, encouraging them to value their beauty and worth as black women. “I wanted to make “Melanin Magic” to remind you that you are black art,” she wrote.
Directed by Remy herself, the video features the Bronx-born rapper along with a cast of gorgeous black women, flashing their melanin magic. Participants include rapper Rapsody as well as Remy’s fellow “Love & Hip Hop: New York” cast mates Yandy Smith and Juliet “Juju” Casteneda.
Styled by Brian & Glam, Remy was featured wearing several looks, including a striking Karen Sabag feather dress.
“Melanin Magic” will be included on her forthcoming album, 7 Winters & 6 Summers, which will be released in 2018.
