SZA fronts the latest issue of Flaunt magazine with an interview covering her plans for new music plus her ongoing issues with celebrity. In the interview she reconfirmed there’s a deluxe version of Ctrl coming that will include new tracks.
The Grammy-nominated singer’s battles with anxiety have become something of a signature for the singer/songwriter and in the interview SZA admitted she’s still stressed, but sees her mental gymnastics as a way to fuel her next album, which she says she’s almost ready to start working on.
I’ve been talking shit to myself on different topics every day for the last week, which is typically how I start,” she explained, adding, “Coming up with little catchphrases in the car on the way home, and I’ll be like, ‘Cute.’ Then I’ll be like, ‘I think I’m ready to write and start recording.’”
Reflecting her struggles with the fame game, SZA cracked jokes about quitting it all. “I’m still miserable. My world got so much smaller so fast. I have so much to write about. I feel like I’m in a cage. I’m making the best album of my life for this next album and I know that because it’s going to be my last album,” stated with a big grin, but still!”
While she still fights with herself over her music career, self loathing has become less of an issue thanks to meditation. “I just decided to focus on other shit and I started working on my inner self: how I feel, and regulating my energy. And then the world around me got better,” she explained, adding her thoughts have become calmer since she began meditating.
