Azealia Banks (Falsely) Accuses Teyana Taylor Of Stealing Dance Moves

Azealia Banks is once again mixed up in some drama and this time it’s with fellow Harlemite Teyana Taylor. Following the nasty dispute Banks had with Cardi B that resulted in the Bronx rapper deleting her Instagram account, Banks is now stirring the pot over dance moves she claims Taylor stole from choreographer Matthew Pasterisa.

The drama began on Instagram where Banks shared a sneak peek of a video for “Anna Wintour,” which shows her in a studio practicing a dance routine. In the comments, a person wrote that Banks was giving up “Teyana Taylor vibes,” to which Banks replied, “You mean the choreography she stole from [Pasterisa] and tried not to give him credit for until he got a lawyer involved.”

Banks was making reference to Kanye West’s “Fade” visual, implying Taylor never credited Pasterisa for his role in the video’s celebrated choreography. As to where Banks got the tea, it clearly came straight from Pasterisa, who is the choreographer behind “Anna Wintour.”

Pause: In her Vogue interview following the very celebrated release of “Fade,” Taylor was asked about the choreography and very specifically credited Pasterisa for contribution to her moves at the end of the video. She explained they came up with the sequence together in 2011 and subsequently pitched it to Beyoncé. Taylor said she loved it and was going to use it in a visual for “End of Time” until her pregnancy sidelined her plans.

Following Bank’s claim, Pasterisa responded on Instagram, writing that while he was grateful for the opportunities provided by “Fade,” he never received any pay. “I Thanked you [Teyana Taylor] Numerous of Times and Showed love. I’m Truly Blessed for it BUT Honestly, I didn’t know any thing about “FADE”, I didn’t Get any calls about it and I didn’t Receive any pay …. (SHE DID GIVE ME SOME CREDIT) I was truly hurt and Felt Stolen from.” Contrary to Banks’ claims, Pasterisa noted that he never took Taylor to court.

After spending Sunday (May 13, 2018) celebrating Mother’s Day, Taylor took the time to respond to Paterisa’s claims today, explaining she, too, was taken by surprise when West chose to release the video on MTV’s Video Music Award show in 2016.

“No one knew he was going to even put the video out! Therefore no one got paid!!! Not even Me!!!” Taylor wrote on Instagram. “It was an amazing look for EVERYONE involved INCLUDING YOU!!! In which you prematurely jumped in your feelings thinking that you weren’t credited.

“Do I need to post screenshots of your apologies saying that you jumped to conclusions?? Do we need to open up that can of worms?? Do we need to post the screenshots of the convo between my mom/manager and your manager just yesterday?? This could have all been avoided if you would have checked your friend from the gate.”

Taylor then reiterated the portion of “Fade” that included Taylor and Paterisa’s choreography was originally intended for for Beyoncé’s single.

Putting a cap on her read, Taylor pointed out Pasteria recently attended her Junie Bee Nail Salon opening, “smiling in my face.”

Check out the drama from start to finish below.

Matthew Pasterisa: “I didn’t receive any pay.”

10-1-11: I posted this Beyonce “End of Time” Choreography on YouTube. When I used to Teach Dance classes in a Basement. To make things very Clear I am very THANKFUL FOR THE VMA OPPORTUNITY And I Thanked you @teyanataylor Numerous of Times and Showed love. I’m Truly Blessed for it BUT Honestly, I didn’t know any thing about “FADE”, I didn’t Get any calls about it and I didn’t Receive any pay …. (SHE DID GIVE ME SOME CREDIT) I was truly hurt and Felt Stolen from …. I took it with a Grain of Salt and Continued to remain Humble. I’m not here to Drag anyone and this wasn’t intentional but the TRUTH IS THE TRUTH ! (NO WE DIDN’T GO TO Court)

Teyana Taylor: “No one got paid!”

2011 (video uploaded to YouTube a year later once we knew for sure it was not being used by bey) Why didn’t you respond directly to me Matt?? @bornready_matt First off, FADE was something that was VERY spontaneous! Anyone that knows how Kanye is, knows that spontaneous is his get down. Newsflash! I did “Dark Fantasy” 3 hrs before he had to turn in MBDTF, and guess what??? I was NEVER credited!!! That’s the difference, you were! But it was nonetheless still a good look & a Blessing for me, in which I recognized that, and didn’t feel so called “stolen from”. NOONE knew he was going to even put the video out! Therefore NOONE got paid!!! Not even Me!!! It was an amazing look for EVERYONE involved INCLUDING YOU!!! In which you prematurely jumped in your feelings thinking that you weren’t credited. Do I need to post screenshots of your apologies saying that you jumped to conclusions?? Do we need to open up that can of worms?? Do we need to post the screenshots of the convo between my mom/manager and your manager just yesterday?? This could have all been avoided if you would have checked your friend from the gate. And for the record, only a very small portion of our choreo that WE created that was used to present to Beyonce for “End Of Time”, but was never used because she got pregnant with Blu was even used. I was actually extending you a look, but you were being too narrow minded to even see your Blessing! WE’VE BEEN CREATING WHAT YOU CALL “our legacy” since 2005!!! Never forget! P.S. funny how you posted a video of you teaching a dance class doing this choreo, but if my memory serves me correctly, isn’t this the same time I submitted OUR video to @tytryone for consideration for Bey? IT WAS NEVER A SECRET THIS PORTION OF THE CHOREO WAS OLD AND WAS ORIGINALLY CREATED FOR BEYONCE! IVE SAID THAT IN EVERY INTERVIEW! And GO BACK AND READ YA OWN INTERVIEWS OF U ADMITTING WE CREATED THE CHOREO TOGETHER. U WANTED CLOUT HERE U GO! Enjoy! And you was just smiling in my face at the @juniebeenails salon opening! Lol a couple of months ago.

Taking inspiration from a feminine Y2K aesthetic, the collection embodies designers Charlotte Knowles and Alexandre Arsenault’s ability to balance sexy and cool.

In an interview with Vogue, the pair shared that they are currently working on a new design director role in Europe and have several other projects in the pipeline, including another denim project, a collaboration with a jewelry brand, and a menswear capsule for an e-commerce site.

Commenting on the lookbook styling, they shared, "Obviously in the lookbooks it's styled in a quite extreme way, but if you break it down into individual pieces, we've been thinking about merchandising and the customer more than ever before," said Arsenault. "We've seen the team in the studio wearing the pieces differently too, and we've taken that into account. It's a nice challenge to say: 'Okay, we want to make a sweatshirt, but it still has this silhouette or wash or rib detail that makes it feel really Knwls."
