U.K.-based Burberry sent Adwoah Aboah to Accra, Ghana, to photograph a striking campaign image featuring the British-born model with her relatives. One of the images shows Aboah and her cousin Kensemaa Aboah, great auntie Mary Asare; grandmother Gladys Aboah and aunty Tina Ernestina “Tina” Aboah, all of whom are clad in traditional Ghanian dresses using Burberry’s famous check fabric.
“I want the world to know that there are two families, both that mean the world to me, two sides to my story,” she wrote on Instagram. “I want the world to see the beauty and Ghana to have that moment in the light, one that it has always deserved. I have been claimed by Ghana, told to go and show the world, make them proud. I belong.”
Aboah, whose name translates to “born on Monday” gets her Ghanian connection through her father Charles Aboah, who owns a location scout company. Her mother is Camilla Lowther, who owns/runs CLM Agency, a fashion agency. The Lowther family is part of British nobility.
The images were shot by Juergen Teller. Check them out below along with some video.
