May has been a rough month for SZA. After announcing she had to take a break from TDE’s “The Championship Tour” on May 23, 2018, to rest her voice, she decided to test the waters during the tour’s stop at Madison Square Garden this evening (May 30th).
There are several videos of SZA performing at MSG and while she seems to be hitting her notes, following the event she got on Twitter and stated her voice was permanently damaged. “My voice is permanently injured . Great !!!!!!!!!!!!! YAYYYYYUUYH!!!!!!!!,” she wrote, adding, “Tonight was the test . That settles that.” In a third tweet, she wrote, “I jus wanna be left alone my priorities are fucked up . They been fucked up . I need space goodbye .” Not long after, she deleted all three tweets.
When she addressed the issue on Instagram last week, it sounded like was going to be off the tour for an extended period. On Instagram she wrote, “For anyone who hasn’t seen this . I’ve been touring for 11 months. This didn’t happen overnight . Ive been troubleshooting for a while now and Usually steroids and pushing through help. They don’t this time . I’m not sick my voice just won’t fucking work.”
