Raf Simons designer showed in Paris yesterday (June 20, 2018) with a spring 2018 menswear collection highlighted by new wave/punk-influenced t-shirts as well as slick suits with colorful satin coats.
Looks were paired with Adidas by Raf Simons platform boots taking inspiration from the club kids of the late ’90s. Back then, platform boots were worn by a very small clique of nightlife lovers who reveled in eschewing all norms, including the notion that men shouldn’t wear high heels.
Twenty-plus years later, the vast majority of men still aren’t going to wear platforms but it says something that the silhouette has returned to a runway designed by a globally admired designer.
Though utterly battered by the world’s current march backwards, the spirit of resistance endures.
