The date of June 24th, 2018 marks the lift of a ban placed on women’s right to drive in Saudi Arabia. Hindamme designer Mohammed Khoja chose to mark the occasion with a capsule collection of satin driving jackets for his clothing line.
Saudi-born Khoja views the moment as an important marker, telling Vogue Arabia, “The decision to lift the ban on women driving is a step forward in our quest to achieve equality, balance, and peace. Every country has events that shift the course of the future. Although the lift of the ban on women driving is not the most defining moment in Saudi history, it is definitely a very symbolic one.”
Available in three color combinations, on one side, the reversible jacket features the date the ban was lifted written in English and Arabic and on the other side, a written statement detailing the change: “A symbolic date forever ingrained in our memory is when the royal decree of King Salman bin Abdulaziz to lift the ban on women driving in Saudi Arabia takes effect.”
Priced at $315, the jackets are now available to purchase on hindamme.com.
