Rising U.K. singer/songwriter Jorja Smith had a cozy interview with Beats 1 host Julie Adenuga, centered on Smith’s upcoming album Lost & Found.
The conversation ranged from her fast-growing fame to a high-profile collaboration with Drake, and Kendrick Lamar, not fitting into a predominantly white school and choosing not to have features on her album and an more.
When asked about the power of her good looks, Smith stated, “A lot of people don’t even know I make music. They just think I’m a pretty person. The thing is when I put out my first song, there was no image. I know that people listened to “Blue Lights” because they liked the song. They like what it meant, they liked my voice. It’s true there is a pretty privilege.
“There was a Jorja Smith versus colorism debate, I understand, I get it. I’m a conversation starter. It’s fine, like I said, people are always gonna say something.”
Smith’s Lost & Found album drops on June 8th, 2018.
