Off-White and LVMH-owned Rimowa have provided additional details on their collaboration, which was first announced in September 2017. In their first partnership together, the end result is a transparent polycarbonate carry-on bag with black handles, wheels and labeling. Not unlike sneaker shoelaces, the bag comes with an additional set of Off-White orange wheels. There’s also an Off-White-branded i.d. tag.
The bag is modeled off of Rimowa’s Essential model, however, it lacks that bag’s interior lining and rather includes a black divider system. Similar to all Rimowa bags, its fitted with four wheels and a TSA-compliant combination lock.
Commenting on the effort, Abloh stated, “This collaboration was an experimentation where we studied traveling and one’s emotional connection to their own ‘personal belongings.’ This Project had been in the works for a while and now the accumulation of various ideas from over a long period of time will be released to the world. I have an affinity for a brand as authentic and longstanding as Rimowa and I enjoyed the task of bringing new ideas to that equation.”
The suitcase will make its official debut at Off-White’s menswear presentation in Paris on June 20, 2018. Select friends of the brands will be gifted personalized black aluminium cases emblazoned with “Personal Belongings,” using Off-White’s industrial trademark font.
The bag will hit retail on June 25th in select Rimowa stores and rimowa.com in Europe. It will also be sold at select Off-White stores and retail partners, plus a WeChat pop up shop.
