Paris luxury label Balmain and Beyoncé have announced plans for a three-piece merch collection comprised of a sweatshirt in yellow and pink and a black t-shirt. The graphics for the offerings are inspired by the same sorority-inspired sweatshirts she wore during her famed Coachella aka Beychella performance.
Balmain designer Olivier Rousteing designed all of the Beychella looks in collaboration with Beyoncé and her stylist, Marni Senofonte. The effort included Bey’s looks as well as the 200-plus performers along with the camouflage looks worn by Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams, who appeared during a Destiny’s Child reunion.
This to me feels really emotional because, as you know, I’m of mixed race. I’m black and my parents are white. I grew up in France without having a real identification of being black and being an adult. I couldn’t see myself in the future, in a way, because there were not so many people in the ’80s or early ’90s that could show me a direction,” Roustein told Vogue. “For me, working with Beyoncé, it’s more than only music. It’s about history, working with a woman that’s going to be part of the history and has made her own revolution, not only in music, not only in fashion. She is an icon to an entire generation and so many more generations can follow the steps of Beyoncé and say, ‘You give us hope, you make us dream.”
And yes, Beyoncé already released a Beychella merch capsule on her site, but at this point only a $115 BAK hoodie remains.
The Balmain x Beyoncé black t-shirt is $290, and the sweatshirts range in price from $550-$1,790. Offerings will be available on July 13, 2018 at Balmain’s Paris store. Offerings will launch on balmain.com and beyonce.com on July 14th and at select retailers.
Proceeds from the drop will benefit the United Negro College Fund, which follow a $100,000 donation Beyoncé’s made to four historically black colleges after her Coachella set.
