Michigan-born and New York-based Queen Naija née Queen Bull has dropped a four-song, self-titled EP, an r&b project that taps into the real-life relationship themes that are part and parcel of her persona.
“Even when I was really little, I knew that music was what I wanted to do with my life,” Queen offered in a press release. “I didn’t know when or how it was going to happen, but I always knew it was my purpose. More than anything I want my music to be heartfelt, true, heartfelt soul and r&b songs that people can relate to their own lives.”
Queen recently visited Hot 97’s “Ebro in the Morning” where she unpacked her complicated relationship history, which is part of her appeal as an artist. In addition to her participation in season eight of “American Idol,” the singer is also well known for YouTube vlogs made in collaboration with her high school sweetheart Chris Sails, who’s also the father of her three-year-old son, Christopher.
Queen and Sails were married, but divorced sometime in 2017 following a very public cheating scandal. In December 2017 she dropped “Medicine,” which addresses her struggles with her ex stepping out.
