New Rochelle-based label 1 OF 1 as lead by Trenna Seney has created a timely “impeach Trump” bag, which Seney describes as an equal but opposite version of the famed MAGA hat. “It’s my way of redesigning the MAGA hat and telling people a viewpoint without speaking,” said Seney, who hand-paints the bags.
Seney said the bag was inspired by series of events that began when her parked car was hit by a stranger, who waved her off when she called attention to the scratches he left behind. “He just was like, ‘I didn’t hit your car you’re crazy,'” said Seney, “He wouldn’t take responsibility until a male witness came up and said he saw the whole thing and confronted him and that’s when he finally admitted it.”
When Seney documented the event on Instagram, she was surprised to receive push back from a few of her followers who pushed back on her conclusion that the man’s dismissive behavior was gender driven. While mulling the back and forth, Seney turned on the TV to see news coverage of Trump denying he knew about payments made to Stormy Daniels.
“It’s all sexist behavior, say Seney. “Trump’s attitude toward women is patronizing and incredibly sexist.” Seney took her frustration with her into her design studio where she created her first “impeach Trump” bag.
Seney says thus far reaction to the bag when she’s worn it in pubic has been almost entirely positive. She took it for its first test drive at an Equality Now event where “I got stares, but way more compliments.”
The label was launched in July 2017 with a “pussy power” collection and at the same time Seney began creating custom, hand-studded and painted jackets. Through the strength of her effusive personality, Seney has made connections with an impressive list of music creatives celebrities including Flo Rida, 2 Chainz and Cardi B for whom she created a studded “just a girl from the Bronx” leather jacket.
Over the next six months, Seney is hoping to hold a pop-up event in New York and also wants to create a capsule of “pussy power” items for men to rock. “I really want “pussy power” to be reach around the world as it relates to all women, and men can rock the apparel as well. I just want to put good energy out in the world with my pieces and see people rock ’em,” Seney concluded.
