Disney has reunited 14 if its princesses in Ralph Breaks the Internet, an upcoming animated film that stars Ralph, an arcade character who pays a visit to the internet. The film is a follow up to Wreck It Ralph, released in 2012.
Ralph goes on his adventure with Vanellope von Schweetz (voiced by Sarah Silverman), who meets up with the famed Disney Princesses on an online fan site. In a promotional image, Vanellope is shot chilling with the princesses who’ve swapped out their organ-crushing shapewear for cozy ‘fits.
“I’m very proud of my character being a Disney princess with a human waist,” said Silverman on her character’s role in the film. “I love that she is a princess but wears, like, a hoodie, and she inspires them all to wear comfortable clothes.”
If you look closely, each character is wearing something that speaks to her back story. Frozen‘s Elsa is wearing a “just let it go” t-shirt while her co-star Anna has a t-shirt reading “finish each other sandwiches,” both of which reference lyrics from the movie. Snow White makes an ironic statement with a shirt with a hypbrid apple/skull graphic and Sleeping Beauty’s top reads “nap queen.” Cinderalla is wearing a pumpkin t-shirt detailed with “g2g,” an acronym for got to go; meanwhile, Mulan is wearing a very stylish sukajan jacket.
There has been some grumbling about the relaxed versions of the princesses. In particular, fans of Princess Tiana have noted her skin appears lighter and her nose is narrower. Her curls are also controversial. While some are cheering her natural look, others think her hair texture is designed to make her more racially ambiguous.
The film hits theaters November 21, 2018. Check out some stills below plus the trailer, which includes Vanellope’s first meeting with the princesses.
