Computer-generated influencer Lil Miquela is back with new music, this time as a featured artist on a track produced by Philadelphia-born Baauer.
The single is a follow up to “Not Mine,” which she released as a solo project in August 2017.
Reflecting on the new track, Miquela wrote on Instagram, “Hate Me is not about one person or one relationship. It’s about thousands of people I’ll never meet and the relationship I am forced to have with them. Hate Me is about the consequences of being different. It is about the repercussions or being yourself online. I owe my whole career to the Internet, and every time I go online, I have to read comments from people wishing I would die or telling me I don’t exist (???). I’ve spent years trying not to let these words get to me, but I can’t deny who I am as a sensitive person. I have to let myself feel the pain from what people say about me. The only difference is now I’m owning the hurt. I don’t care anymore. Honestly, truly. I’m going to be the greatest artist of my generation. So yeah. So go ahead and hate me.”
Truthfully, Miquela with a 1.3 million strong Instagram following is fairly popular (versus Baauer who has 110,000 followers). Among the people who comment on her page, most of the feedback is fairly positive, though she’s right that her comments are filled with people arguing over whether she’s real or not.
