Nike has announced plans to relaunch WNBA player Sheryl Swoopes signature shoe, the first signature silhouette designed for a female player and the athlete after Michael Jordan to have an eponymous model.
The relaunched shoe will be called the Swoopes II and will be make its debut in two colorways: white/black-royal and white/black-red.
The Swoopes has its origins in the ’70s before the WNBA existed, a period when Nike was involved with women’s basketball through sponsored support of collegiate teams.
The WNBA was launched in 1996 and Swoopes was the very first player signed to the WBNA and started her career with the Houston Comets. She went to play with the Seattle Storm, Tulsa Shock and three U.S. gold-medal teams.
Swoopes’ accolades, including ESPY’s best female college basketball player, WNBA defensive player of the year and the WNBA’s Top 15 Players of All Time.
The Nike Air Swoopes II in white/black-royal drops on August 17, 2018 on SNKRS in North America and in white/black-red on September 7th.
