Rihanna and Donald Glover have been spotted in Cuba where they’re rumored to be working on a music project directed by Japanese filmmaker Hiro Muraim, who directed Glover’s “This Is America” video and has also directed multiple “Atlanta” episodes.
The Cuban site Vistar is also reporting that Leitia Wright and Nonso Anozie are also part of the project, reportedly titled “Guava Island.”
Speculation on what the project has ranged from a movie to a musical to a music video. Rihanna was first spotted doing some shopping in Havana on August 9, 2018, and yesterday Cuban publication Vistar reported on the shoot, which is being filmed in locations throughout Havana, including a textile factory. The publication added that Glover took time out from filming to visit the Cuban Art Factory.
This is Rihanna’s second visit to Cuba. She visited two years ago as part of a Vanity Fair editorial shot by Annie Leibovitz.
Glover was also tapped by Rihanna as a musical performer for her Diamond Ball charity event, which will take place September 13, 2018, at Cipriani Wall Street in New York.
In separate reporting by Billboard, Rihanna is said to be working on a double pop and reggae/Caribbean-flavored album. As such, Cuba would make for the perfect backdrop for a music video.
