Fendi‘s all-over Zucca logo is a piping hot item these days among the influentia, and while the celebrated logo was present on the spring 2019 runway (and worn by front row guest Nicki Minaj) in Milan, the label made a effort to draw it back for spring 2019 and instead made a bigger statement with waist bags.
While the lower price of waist and crossbody bags is no friend to leather handbag companies, it’s also folly to ignore the trend and hope it goes away. Just like women are embracing sneakers at the moment, they also want sporty bag options, and if you refuse to acknowledge the trend on principal, you risk alienating an entire generation of customers.
Fendi accessory designer Silvia Venturini Fendi found a way to bridge the gap by showing models who wore multi-pocket waist bags and also carried a bigger bag. Meanwhile, designer Karl Lagerfeld made the look work with items like biker shorts and high-waist khaki slacks.
From the perspective of streetwear, neither look is a new concept (at all!) and for the typical Fendi customer, they’re probably right on time.
