As part of its spring 2019 presentation in Paris, Maison Margiela on Wednesday (September 26, 2018) released a new perfume called Mutiny, marking the first scent designed under John Galliano’s direction since joining the label in 2014.
Created in consultation with perfumer Dominique Ropion, Mutiny features notes of tuberose, leather accord, saffron, oud, and vanilla.
The launch was accompanied by Craig McDean-shot campaign featuring Princess Nokia, Molly Bair, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Willow Smith, Sasha Lane, and Teddy Quinlivan. Participants are described as “mutinists,” who are known for choosing their own paths.
Galliano spoke about the inspiration for the fragrance launch during his iTunes podcast, “The Memory of…with John Galliano,” on which he commented, “It started with the idea of mutiny. There were things that were happening around me in the world. There was a lot of unrest in Paris, and the women’s march in America. It was the courage of standing up for what you believe in.”
Priced at $115, the perfume is now available at barneys.com.
