Sephora recently confirmed reports it will stock a Pinrose starter witch kit at its stores and online, starting October 9, 2018. According to Quartzy, the nine-piece set is priced at $42, and includes tarot cards, sage, perfume and a rose quartz crystal.
While there are similar kits sold everywhere from Etsy to Amazon, for some reason Sephora getting behind the concept has inspired a lot of push back on social media.
It doesn’t help that the pastel-colored box features an illustration of a witch whose robe is inexplicably detailed with Prince’s love symbol. Pinrose hasn’t addressed why they chose to use his symbol, which is trademarked.
SZA weighed in with her own opinion on Twitter where she wrote, “This whole over the counter tarot cards x Sephora starter witch kit dangerous es hell and very headass .. don’t do magic at the mall kids ♀”
While at first glance SZA’s opinion may not appear to hold any special weight, keep in mind she’s a former Sephora employee (specifically store No. 330) and as such she’s concerned mainly about employees. Responding to a follower who recognized her expertise, SZA wrote, “Lmao as a former employee I’m honestly jus tryna imagine the training liiikke who lit the sage .. what cards were pulled lmao who blessed and protected the sales team”
