Polo Ralph Lauren and U.K.-based Palace Skateboards have revealed plans for a collaboration, an announcement first made through a series of billboards in global cities. Ralph Lauren also announced the news on its Polo Instagram account today (October 22, 2018), where the caption read: “Palace Ralph Lauren is a timeless collection that represents a love letter from a young London skateboard company to their favourite brand in the universe.”
The items included in the collection haven’t yet been revealed, but there is some chatter on social media that it will hit some time in November 2019.
Ralph Lauren partnering with Palace is kind of a big deal because the 79-year-old Lauren has shown a reluctance to jump on the collabo bandwagon. And despite pushes by his marketing team, he’s also been rather stingy when it comes to relaunching Polo’s archival pieces, and only dipped into its extensive vault for the first time in October 2017 as part of the brand’s 25th anniversary.
It will be interesting to see if this effort reflects a pivot in Ralph Lauren’s collaborative strategy or it will be a one-off partnership limited to Palace.
