Milk Makeup has announced plans for a Wu-Warrier lipstick collection inspired by Wu-Tang member SZA with a campaign fronted by Harlem-singer Teyana Taylor.
Reflecting on the effort, Wu member RZA told Billboard, “I have a great relationship with Milk’s founder, Rassi, and as New Yorkers, we’ve frequented some of the same circles. We spoke about fashion and the cosmetic world and I revealed that Talani, my wife, has a cool perspective about makeup because in her youth, she was in the modeling circles.”
He added, “RZA’s wife influenced this collab, being that she has a love for makeup and she was a model and a passion for fashion so Talani, had a big say so for this collaboration.
The packaging, names and ingredients for the lipsticks all reflect RZA’s love of Asian culture. Colors range from baby pink to dark red and are called Sacred, Fire, Chi, Flow, Frequency, Source, Cypher, and Ruckus, which are offered in high shine, matte and glitter textures. Ingredients include sacred lotus water, cherry blossom, ginseng, bamboo shoots, and Chinese red dates. The lipstick is formed in a gold casing and sold in a blue box with the “W” logo.
Taylor is the face of the campaign, which includes a visual directed by Georgie Greville. On the effort, Taylor stated, “The collection makes me feel empowered, because I definitely feel like a warrior in how I live my life. When I’m rehearsing for my shows, performing, and getting to share my craft with the world, it allows me to access serious personal power to do what I do. I love the idea that lipstick can be war paint of sorts. A power lip is called a power lip for a reason.”
A single lipsticks is $55 while a gift set of all eight shades is $440 and includes a compact and set of pins. Offerings are limited edition and are now available on milkmakeup.com.
