Rapper Sheck Wes’ management released an official statement today (February 13, 2019) in response to singer Justine Skye‘s tweet yesterday accusing Sheck’s friends of stalking her and her friends as he looked on from a car.
The statement from representatives for the 20-year-old Sheck, whose real name is Khadimou Rassoul Cheikh Fall, reads, “We are actively investigating the allegations against Sheck Wes and are fiercely standing by him through this. He has denied any wrongdoing whatsoever or violence of any kind and we believe him. He will defend himself against this serious defamation of character with any and all legal remedies available and for now will leave this with the legal process. Sheck is a strong supporter of the rights and liberties of all people and is appalled by these wrongful allegations and attempts to assassinate his character. He will no longer sit by and allow these falsehoods to live on any further.”
Already the fall out has begun. Today Major League Soccer said it planned to drop Sheck from planned inclusion in its 2019 promotional efforts. Sheck remains jointly signed to Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack Records and Kanye West’s GOOD Music record labels, which operate under the umbrella of Interscope Records.
Shecks’ statement followed a contentious exchange with Skye on Twitter yesterday. The 23-year-old Skye née Justine Indira Skyers, who is signed to Roc Nation, began by writing, “Taking a walk with my friends and my man and Sheck Wes (my abuser) and his friends decide to STALK US and attack my friends.. two cars full of niggas while he sat in the car like a bitch. You’re pathetic sheck and you beat women. You hit your girl before me and you’ll do it again.”
On Twitter, Sheck denied Skye’s charges and accused her of lying. “I’ve chosen to remain silent until now out of respect for actual victims of abuse. But I cannot stand by while lies are repeatedly told about me. I never hit or beat any women and I did not beat up or jump anybody,” he wrote.
Skye followed by producing security camera video showing Sheck striding over her home’s fencing as he shouted her name. She also published screen cap images showing exchanges when she was frightened by his aggressive behavior. Skye and Sheck continued to exchange tweets, some of which Sheck deleted.
Following the tweets, Skye documented her attempt to file a report about the alleged stalking incident at a West Hollywood, California, precinct, and noted she received push back from officers. On Instagram stories she wrote, “Different precinct now trying to file the last report but their rude, dismissive and disrespectful. Called me a ‘difficult victim’ when he wouldn’t even let me finish telling him what happened before he could give me a list of reasons as to why he couldn’t help me.”
Skye in several interviews conducted during October 2018 made reference to being abused by a prior boyfriend, who she she dated for six months. She further addressed the topic in a song titled “Build.” While she didn’t state his name at the time, it was widely thought to be Sheck.
