Winter is no longer coming, it is here as marked by the release of the official trailer for the final season of “Game of Thrones.” The two-minute video was also accompanied by official images along with some hints of what to expect in the series’ eighth season. The first episode will air on April 14, 2019 on HBO.
The trailer opens with an out-of-breath Arya Stark (Maisie Williams) running from unseen pursuers with a voice over in which she states, “I know death, he’s got many faces, I look forward to seeing this one,” a scene followed by one of her fighting. The trailer also includes a shot of Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) at King’s Landing and Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) taking in Daenerys Targaryen’s (Emilia Clarke) dragons as they fly over head. The clip also confirms that character Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) has joined as an ally of Winterfell with a voice over stating, “I promised to fight for the living, I intend to keep that promise.” The clip also shows several shots of Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Dany so expect the story of their relationship to figure prominently.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the episode featuring the battle of Winterfeld, in which a collection of cobbled-together allies will face off against the Night King’s Army of the Dead, will be one for the ages. Directed by Miguel Sapochnik, the episode is described as the “longest consecutive battle sequence ever committed to film,” and includes the largest number of Game of Throne characters together since the show’s debut episode in 2011.
