New York-based CFDA (Council of Fashion Designers of America) today announced singer/actress Jennifer Lopez as the recipient of its Fashion Icon award.
The organization praised Lopez for her longstanding impact on fashion.
In a press release, CFDA chairwoman Diane von Furstenberg stated, “Jennifer Lopez uses clothes as a way to express confidence and power. Both designers and fans look forward to her fashion statements.”
CFDA highlighted Lopez’s biggest fashion moments, including of course her Grammy Awards 2000 Versace dress, along with a transparent slip-dress she wore to the 1998 CFDA Awards, a gold Marchesa & Lorraine Schwartz dress worn to the 2009 Golden Globe Awards and an Armani Privé worn to the 2010 Vanity Fair Oscars party, among many others.
Prior recipients of the Fashion Icon award include Naomi Campbell (2018), Franca Sozzani (2017), Beyoncé (2016), Pharrell Williams (2015), Rihanna (2014) and Johnny Depp (2012).
The 2019 CFDA Fashion Awards will be held on June 3rd at the Brooklyn Museum.
