While the major Rihanna news today (May 20, 2019) was the preview of Fenty‘s debut collection, within the T Magazine feature featuring the product she also provided fans with news of her next music project.
The subject of music came up when playwright Jeremy Harris, who interviewed her for the article, asked her if Good Girl Gone Bad was her favorite album, Rihanna responded, “No, because that was a transition. I don’t know what my favorite album is. I’m sure if I put all my favorite songs together, it would be a really sick album. Maybe I should do that one day.”
When Harris suggested Rihanna troll her fans by dropping a greatest hits album next, she answered, “They would hate me. They would take me down.” She also answered in the affirmative when Harris asked if the album would be reggae themed.
On fellow collaborators, the 31-year-old shot down rumors Lady Gaga would be included. She explained, “Maybe because she followed me on Instagram. It’s not in the books right now, but I’m not against it.”
As to the possibility of a Drake feature, she was firm he wouldn’t be included on her next album. Rihanna explained, “Not anytime soon, I don’t see it happening. Not on this album, that’s for sure.”
While there have been rumors the album is complete, Rihanna says she doesn’t yet have a title for it nor a launch date. That said, she did like the idea of naming it R9, a nickname created by the Navy. She explained, “So far it’s just been R9, thanks to the Navy. I’m about to call it that probably, ’cause they have haunted me with this ‘R9, R9, when is R9 coming out?’ How will I accept another name after that’s been burned into my skull?”
