Mogul Kim Kardashian has announced plans to launch Kimono, a shapewewar line. And really, who better to launch a shapewear line than Kardashian, who’s not only known for her curves but also her long standing appreciation for shapewear.
The 36-year-old let it be known her husband, Kanye West, designed the logo, and one could say the multi-hued skin tones of the line were also inspired by his Yeezy line. And indeed, the line was photographed by artist Vanessa Beecroft, who has assisted with the staging of several tonal-themed Yeezy presentations.
Offerings will be sold in nine shades and will be sized from XXS-4XL. One of the better received items is a one-legged short because it solves the problem of wearing shapewear with a slit skirt or dress. Kardashian’s friend Chrissy Tiegen responded with delight to the item on Twitter, where she wrote, “Oh my god I don’t have to cut one side of my spanx anymore!!!!!”
As with all things Kardashian, there’s been some social media push back on naming the line Kimono because it’s also the word for a traditional Asian garment and the choice feeds into the frequent criticism that the family steals ideas from minority cultures and cashes in on them.
As of yet, Kardashian hasn’t provided timing for the launch but in the meantime, the label is looking for social media influencers and currently has an application on kimono.com.
