With the launch of Fenty in the books, Rihanna checked in on Instagram Stories where she let fans know she’s putting in work on on her next album, dubbed R9 by the Navy. On a video shot in a studio, the weary looking Rihanna wrote, “behind the scenes of ‘Where’s is the album?'” She added the time of the video as well: 5:40 AM.
And while Rihanna has confirmed the album will be reggae themed, Stockton, California-born rapper Haiti Babii (real name Amari Amil Proctor) recently alleged Jamaican dancehall singer Koffee is among the album’s songwriters.
In an exchange with BET, Babii said Rihanna FaceTimed him after hearing one of his songs from his “Warrior” EP, which dropped in early May. (Rihanna may have also been responding to to a buzz-building, bazaar freestyle he dropped on a visit to Real 92.3 LA.)
Babii explained, “It was night time wherever she was. She was in a club partying. She was like, ‘I like this song, yo. It’s dope, yo.’ I was like, ‘Alright, yeah. She’s messing with it.’ I asked her, ‘Ri, what’s up with Koffee? Do you know who that is?’ And I spelled the name wrong at first, but she was like, ‘Koffee? Yeah, that’s one of my writers. You guys definitely have to link. I need something now.’ I was like, ‘I’m on it, Ri. I’m on it.’”
