The London premiere of The Lion King on Sunday received an extra boost on Sunday with the attendance of new parents Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, marking their first red carpet appearance as a couple. Beyoncé and Shawn “Jay-Z” Carter, who’ve been publically supportive of Markle, finally had their meeting with the Duchess prior to the screening.
On the red carpet, Beyoncé wore a gold gown with a high slit by Cong Tri while Meghan Markle wore a knee length black dress with a full skirt designed by Jason Wu with a Gucci clutch and Aquazzura heels.
Earlier this year, Beyonce and Jay-Z accepted their BRIT music award for best international group with a video shot in front of a portrait of Markle portrait and followed up with a letter praising Markle for her charity work and including black traditions in her royal wedding to Prince Harry.
Additional high caliber celebrities at the event included Pharrell Williams, Elton John, both of whom worked on the movie’s soundtrack.
In the film, Beyoncé is the voice behind lioness Nala, while Donald Glover is the voice of Simba, the film’s protagonist. The Lion King will see a global release on July 18, 2019.
