Beyoncé last night (July 17, 2019) dropped a gorgeous visual for “Spirit,” the debut single from The Lion King: The Gift, an album she produced and curated that includes a mix of U.S. and African artists. Described as a love letter to Africa, the album is a separate effort from the movie’s official soundtrack.
Shot in the Grand Canyon, the visual is interspersed with clips from The Lion King. Playing off of the stark desert backdrop, Beyoncé and back-up dancers coordinate in a series of chartreuse, royal blue, pink and red looks. Early on in the visual, Blue Ivy makes an appearance dressed in a pink gown and sporting a head full of red curls similar to her mother’s.
Styled by Zerina Akers, featured looks were provided by Valentino haute couture (Beyoncé’s opening pink gown), Norma Kamali, Alexandrine, Laurel DeWitt and Mark Fast. Reflecting the album’s connection to Africa, Beyoncé also wears a striking black and white corset and trousers look by Dakhar, Senegal-based Tongoro. For additional details, visit @stylebeyonce.
The film The Lion King and the album The Lion King: The Gift will both drop on Friday, July 19.
