Atlanta-born rapper Lil Nas X (real name Montero Lamar Hill) has made his sexuality official with an announcement on Twitter that came on the final day of Pride month.
Without outright stating his preferences, the 20-year old Nas X posted a clip of his single “C7osure,” and wrote in the caption, “Some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care, some of y’all not gone fwm no more. but before this month ends i want y’all to listen closely to c7osure.”
“C7osure” doesn’t specifically make a statement about his sexuality, though he repeatedly references growth and being true to himself with lyrics including, “Ain’t no more actin’, man that forecast say I should just let me grow.”
In a second tweet showing rainbow-colored buildings from the art for his “7” EP, he wrote, “deadass thought i made it obvious.”
For an added twist, in an Instagram comment on his page Nas X wrote, “just cuz i’m gay don’t mean i’m gay.”
For Nas X’s youthful band of followers, the news probably doesn’t change much in part because most of them couldn’t care less. At the same time, plenty of people already suspected he was gay given his known status as a Nicki Minaj super fan, reflected by his former @nasmaraj Twitter user name.
