Paris-based LVMH Prize today announced its 2019 prize winners with the grand prize awarded to South African designer Thebe Magugu. The prize includes a 300,000-euro grant and a year of mentoring by a dedicated LVMH team. Magugu is the first designer from Africa to win the prestigious LVMH Prize since it was founded in 2014.
Tel Aviv-based designer Hed Mayner won the Special Prize, now known as the Karl Lagerfeld prize, worth 150,000 euros and a year of mentorship.
In addition to Magugu and Mayner, the six additional labels that made it to the final round included Anrealage, Bethany Williams, Bode, Hed Mayner, Kenneth Ize, Phipps and Stefan Cooke .
