Selena Gomez makes her 2019 solo music return with the back-to-back release of two new singles, “Lose to Love Me” and “Look at her Now.” Both singles were accompanied by visuals, directed by Sophie Muller and shot entirely on an iPhone 11 Pro.
Commenting on “Lose to Love Me, Gomez stated in a press release, “This song was inspired by many things that have happened in my life since releasing my last album [released in October 2015].”
She added, “I thought it was important to share the music, as I know many can relate to the fact that the road to self-discovery generally comes through the scars in one’s life. I want people to feel hope and to know you will come out the other side stronger and a better version of yourself.”
The lyrics for “Lose to Love Me” are creating some
“Set fire to my purpose and I let it burn,” she sings on the emotional song, a possible reference to Beiber’s 2015 album Purpose. In a later verse, Gomez adds: “In two months you replaced us like it was easy,” likely a reference to to Bieber marrying Hailey Baldwin within months after his relationship with Gomez ended.
