California-based Vans has teamed up with streetwear label Rhude creative director Rhuigi Villaseñor on a capsule featuring the brand’s Bold NI silhouette.
Referencing Vans’ California roots, the shoe’s color and graphic story is inspired by three different license plates for “The Golden State.” Years include 1963, the year Vans was founded; 1969, a blue-themed plat reflecting Rhude’s logo and 1982, known for its California sun graphic.
The reference to license plates also reflects Rhuigi Villaseñor’s love of cars. In a press release he explained, “From a design standpoint, the colorways I chose are an homage to my love of iconic, classic cars; blue to represent the Mercedes 280 SL, red for the Ferrari 275 and black for the Porsche Carrera.”
Vans and Rhude capsule will drop on rh-ude.com as well as select Vans retailers on October 26, 2019 and November 23rd.
