Chicago-based designer Joe Freshgoods (real name Joseph Robinson) has revealed an NBA All Star weekend shoe and apparel effort with New Balance in collaboration with Joe’s Don’t Be Mad imprint.
Working off of New Balance‘s 992 silhouette, the shoe is called “Anatomy of a Heart,” a name describing the shoe’s suede, leather and mesh red, pink and beige upper. The 992 is accompanied by three sets of laces including a blue pair.
The partnership also includes a new version of New Balance’s OMN1S basketball sneaker designed for Los Angeles Clipper star Kawhi Leonard. The shoe’s upper is detailed with a straight-faced emoji reflecting Joe Fresh Goods “No Emotions Are Emotions” tagline and approach.
Commenting on the OMN1S on Instagram, Joe wrote, “I’ve always believed that actions are louder than words sidenote for the past 7 years I’ve adopted the ‘smiley face’ as my brand moniker for DBM but for this situation and how I’ve been feeling for the past few months I have my game face all the way on. Hence the ‘😐’ I just wanna quietly/humbly do my job and win.”
New Balance and Joe’s collaborative capsule will launch at a pop up as part of the NBA’s All-Star weekend in Chicago. While the pop up will take place in Chicago on February 14, 2020, Joe hasn’t yet revealed the location. Keep an eye on his Instagram for updates.
