Up-and-coming R&B singer/songwriter Rileyy Lanez is gearing up to launch “Left 4 Me,” her first single since signing with Columbia Records. The Bronx-born Lanez first turned heads last summer with a visual for “I’m Leaving,” a visual that has since amassed six million views.
We checked in with the 19-year old about her love of dance, creative roots and how she’s dealing with social distancing.
Check out the exchange below.
SNOBETTE: When did you know you wanted to do music?
Rileyy Lanez: “Since I was a little girl, I knew I wanted to perform. Funny enough, I went to high school for dance for my full four years, as opposed to music and singing. You will definitely see me dancing on my videos soon.”
Snobette: “There’s this adorable video of you and you little brother performing together. Did you grow up in a creative home?
Rileyy Lanez: No one really sings in our family, but the dancing ability, I definitely inherited that from my dad. He was dope.
Snobette: Fashion-wise, do you have any favorite designers?
Rileyy Lanez: “I’m not big on designer brands, I shop at a lot of teen-centric retailers like Spencer’s for example. But sneakers are my love, I’m a sneakerhead for sure and a hightop girl all the way.”
Snobette: If you could only pack one pair of sneakers for an extended trip, what would you choose?
Rileyy: “It would have to be the ones, my Jordan 1s for sure.”
Snobette: We’re all working from home, social distancing at the time of this interview. How are you coping?
Rileyy Lanez: “My fans, my followers are everything to me, I want them to know that even though this is a setback, we will come out of this soon. I can’t wait to be back in the studio creating.”
