Former Vogue editor André Leon Talley has announced the timing for his autobiography, The Chiffon Trenches, has been moved back to its original May 19, 2020 launch date.
Announcing the news on Instagram, Talley wrote, “I went into the deepest core of my being; my memory is intact. It is a deeply personal story of a life well lived within the world of fashion, in all of its most glamorous and cutthroat moments. I have communed with the greats. And I am thrilled to announce the new publication date, by popular demand: May 19, 2020.”
Moved out to September because COVID-19 shelter-in-placed dictates pulled the rug out from under planned promotional activities, the book is returning to original dating in response to excitement generated by widely-buzzed about excerpts from the book. In particular, Talley’s descriptions of Vogue editor-in-chief, Anna Wintour as an emotionless, clout-obsessed leader have been widely discussed and debated.
Recently, designer Ralph Rucci weighed in on Instagram where he wrote, “It’s a severe injury to the brain to realize that we have tolerated this mediocrity in our metier for almost four decades.”
However, while Talley’s take on his former boss is not nice, it should be noted that none of it is a surprise to Wintour. According to WWD, Talley provided her with a galley of the book in January and complied when she requested changes.
Priced at $28, The Chiffon Trenches is available to pre-order here.
