Digital influencer Miquela Sousa, better known as Lil Miquela, has signed on as Creative Artist Agency’s (CAA) first virtual client, according to Variety. CAA says it will work with Miquela in brand strategy and commercial endeavors, which include the prospect of a movie or show featuring the character.
The 19-year-old, Brazilian-American avatar was launched in 2016 by Brud, a Los Angeles-based creative agency specializing in robotics and artificial intelligence for media companies. The company was founded in 2014 by Trevor McFedries (formerly a DJ/Producer known as Yung Skeeter and Sara Decou, whose background prior to Brud isn’t known.
Commenting on the deal, CAA executive Adam Friedman stated, “Over the last few years, we’ve watched the team at Brud create a true multi-hyphenate in Miquela. We are excited to jump in and help her navigate the world of television and film, and also see a unique opportunity for innovative, forward-thinking brands to align with a culturally relevant, icon-in-the-making.”
Prior to signing with CAA, Brud had raised $6.1 million from investors including Spark Capital, BoxGroup, Sequoia Capital and Founders Fund, per Crunchbase.
