Grammy Award winning music creative Alicia Keys checked in with Complex and host Joe La Puma for an episode of “Sneaker Shopping” at Stadium Goods. Keys episode marks the resumption of in-store interviews.
Rocking a pair of Air Jordan 4 sneakers made in collaboration with KAWS artist Brian Donnelly (who personally gifted her the pair), Keys (real name Alicia Cook) was asked about her memories of collaborating with Reebok on a pair of Freestyle Hi aka 5411 sneakers in 2012. She explained, “It was such a classic shoe but it was time for a revamp. I loved the experience. I loved the creative process.”
When asked about Jordan‘s 2018 and 2019 well-received collaborative efforts with Aleali May and Melody Ehsani, Keys lauded their shoes but thinks the industry has a ways to go.
She explained, “I think that the industry is a little behind, It’s unfortunate that we have to get all excited because two or three women broke into the space. And it kind of makes me nuts, but of course I love what they’re doing. It is an outlet and we have a lot of work to do on a lot of levels.”
As to her end-of-show purchase, Keys picked up a pair of Nike SB Dunk Ben & Jerry’s “Chunky Dunky” sneakers, purchased for husband, Swizz Beatz (real name Kasseem Dean) for a cool $2,575.53.
During the effort, Keys also discussed her seventh studio album, Alicia, which dropped on September 18, 2020 and is now available on all streaming channels.
