Vanessa Bryant took to Instagram today (April 30, 2021) where she announced plans to launch a Mambacita clothing capsule in honor of what would have been her daughter Gigi’s 15th birthday on May 1st. The drop features a tie dye hoodie and sweatpants in either black or lilac. The bottoms are detailed with the number 2, Gigi’s jersey number, enclosed in a heart. All proceeds from the drop will be donated to the Mamba and Mabacita Sports Foundation.
Vanessa Bryant modeled the looks alongside her 18-year-old daughter, Natalia Bryant. Notable, both are wearing a pair of Nike Zoom Kobe 6 Protro “All Star” sneakers. The choice is interesting because Vanessa Bryant recently let it known that Kobe Bryant’s contract with Nike had expired on April 13th.
It’s not known why Nike couldn’t come to an agreement with his estate, but Vanessa Bryant was said to be frustrated by Nike’s reluctance to expand sizing for her husband’s shoes as well as provide a greater number of pairs after his death.
Prior to the Nike news, the Bryant estate filed a trademark for the phrase Mamba and Mambacita with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, according to TMZ.
Offered in adult unisex and kid’s sizing, look for Mambacita offerings to drop on May 1, 2021 on mambaandmambacita.org (which is currently experiencing server issues). Bryant hasn’t provided exact timing for the launch, but keep an eye on her Instagram for updates.
