Bay-Area music creative Saweetie follows up on her “Saweetie Meal” with McDonald’s with a collection of merch celebrating the partnership with the fast food giant. The 21-piece capsule includes a hoodie, crewneck, t-shirts, shorts, socks, fanny pack and tote bag, all of which are co-branded with McDonald’s famed Golden Arches “I’m Loving It” tagline and the performer’s signature “I know that’s right” phrase and snowflake motif.
Saweetie (real name Diamonté Harper) is the second musical artist in McDonald’ history to create both a special meal and merch collection. Her meal and merch follows the chain’s effort with Travis Scott (real name Jacques Webster II), whose extensive collection of merch sold out not long after it launched. Prior to Scott, the company partnered with K-Pop group BTS and Colombian artist J Balvin on meals but not merch.
While it’s worth debating the benefits of young music creatives partnering with a company often viewed as problematic, the partnerships have been an undeniable boom for McDonald’s.
According the Food Institute, McDonald’s reported its promotion with BTS helped drive U.S. same-store sales up 25.9% versus last year and up 14.9% on a two-year basis. Net sales rose 57 percent to $5.89 billion, topping Wall Street estimates of $5.6 billion.”
Priced from $38 for a fanny pack up to $128 for a hoodie, McDonald’s and Saweetie’s merch collection is available on icybysaweetie.com.
