In HBO’s “Insecure” episode eight titled “Choices, Okay?!” the story marks a turning point in in the life of character Issa Dee (Issa Rae). She’s moved in with her beau Nathan Campbell (Kendrick Sampson) but as she mulls her future, it’s her ex, Lawrence Walker (Jay Ellis) she’s seemingly fixated on.
The plot provided a fun challenge for costume designer Shiona Turini, who was tasked with styling Issa in the here and now as well as in the future, when she’s living so large she’s flexing a Goyard tote bag while flying in first class and casually chatting with Ty Dolla $ign.
In episode eight, the action is centered around Issa’s outdoor art fare, where she makes her own artful statement in a mock neck top featuring a print from artist artist Genevieve Gaignard mixed media painting The Innocent American. In a Snobette exclusive interview, Gaignard let s know the top is a one-off item that came to fruition after Torini reached out to her about collaborating.
In addition to the custom top, labels we were able to identify in episode are as follows: Nike, Off-White, Stüssy, Coogi, Cos, Dion Lee, Acne Studio, Dries van Noten, Attico, Maison Margiela, Duplantier, Wales Bonner, Altuzarra, Studio One Eighty Nine, Leset, Aliette, Telfar and Jacquemus.
