Nike has pulled a planned Off-White Low Blazer drop, which was set to launch on December 9, 2021. Following Off-White designer Virgil Abloh‘s death on Sunday (November 28, 2021), Nike quietly pulled the launch from its SNKRS app and also instructed retail partners to return the shoe.
The distinct shoe featured either a white (style code: DH7863-100) or black (style code: DH7863-001) leather upper dotted with the cut out circles described as meteor shower holes Abloh has been referencing in his work since he first showed them throughout the label’s spring 2020 women’s collection. The shoe also includes the outdoor-shoe-inspired, double lacing system, which has become a design signature since 2018. Abloh also swapped out the back half of the Blazer’s low-key vulcanized bottom for a built out outsole extending beyond the heel.
Nike hasn’t announced whether it plans to reschedule the Dunk Low launch nor how it plans to treat any upcoming Off-White collaborations. While not corroborated, we recently heard Abloh knew his time was limited and was focused in his final months on finishing up as many planned projects as possible. In the case of Nike, he allegedly signed off on shoes which would take his partnership with the brand into 2023.
