Air Jordan has previewed new platform silhouette dubbed 1 LV8D, a sneaker offered in a very iconic Bred colorway. Adding some bling appeal, the shoe is accompanied by a Jumpman anklet and features a cork insole detailed with an image of Michael Jordan in action.
As with any sneaker featuring a platform, the shoe has drawn a love/hate reaction from female sneaker lovers.
Among purists who for years have been pleading for Jordan to just consistently supply Retro silhouettes in women’s sizing, the platform is viewed as a slap in the face in that it’s a shoe no one asked for. Stripped of the Jordan’s famed winged motif on the heel tab, the platform shoe is viewed as flippantly cutting ties with the brand’s deeply substantial reputation as a heritage brand reflecting an assumption the female customer won’t notice or care.
At the same time, there actually are women who don’t much care about Air Jordan’s weighty past and they view the shoe as simply a fun fashion statement elevated by Jordan branding and the classic red and black color combo.
While Jordan is less known for creating purely style-rooted silhouettes versus Nike or Converse, the LV8D is not the first platform in the brand’s history. Back in 2018, it relaced the Air Jordan 1 Lifted in three different colorways including a very flashy metallic red bronze.
While there’s currently no pricing on the shoe, it’s expected to release in February 2022.
