Brooklyn-born influencer and designer Wuzg00d whose real name is Alani Figueroa has partnered with New York-based The M Jewelers on a capsule of gold jewelry. Titled “Herencia,” which translates to heritage, the collection celebrates the outsized influence of ’90s and early aughts-era Nuyorican style and culture of the inner city.
As directed by Wuzg00d, the campaign visual features a young Wuzg00d who is shot strolling Brooklyn’s ’90s-era streets hand-in-hand with her very fly mother. Along the way, they stop in a nail salon and walk past a jewelry shop whose windows are filled with the gold jewelry pieces that defined an era. With salsa playing in the background, Wuzg00d discusses how her mother influenced her style.
In press about the capsule Figueroa stated, “‘Herencia’ has been a dream project come true. When The M Jewelry came to me for a collaboration, I immediately knew I wanted to honor my heritage and my mom – the two very things that shaped who I am today and the reason I love jewelry so much.
“In this process, it was so important to me that I work with black and brown creatives who were able to authentically capture my story with me. Who truly understood where I come from and how I grew up.”
While prices aren’t yet available, the Wuzg00d and The M Jewelers capsule will launch on themjewelersny.com on October 28, 2022.
