Converse and Rick Owens through his DRKSHDW diffusion label have queued up their latest collaborative effort, a TURBODRK Chuck 70 feauring a head-turning, faux fur zebra upper and a TURBOWPN, a black and white hightop inspired by the sneaker brand’s Weapon sneaker.
For the campaign, Owens tapped New Orleans-based Bounce artist Big Freedia. Discussing his choice to feature Freedia, Owens said, “Over 10 years ago, I was frustrated that there wasn’t a sleazy dance club within walking distance of my house in the 7th arrondissement of Paris, so I decided to start one myself.
“I reached out to Big Freedia to come perform because I was excited about the new energy and and attitude I heard coming from the New Orleans bounce scene. Now 10 years later, I have asked him to represent my collab with Converse to celebrate his enduring power and ferocity, in an all too often narrow and judgmental world.”
Priced at $170 for the TURBODRK and $200 for the TURBOWPN, Converse and Rick Owens’ DRKSHDW sneakers will be available on converse.com and rickownes.eu on January 10, 2023.
