Sacai turned some heads with the reveal of a Carhartt WIP capsule on the label’s Paris Fashion Week runway show. The capsule features men’s and women’s outerwear piece making use of Carhartt‘s signature cotton duck fabric along with cozy, oversizedsweaters.
In an exchange with WWD, Sacai designer Chitose Abe said, “It’s a blessing in disguise in some ways. I’m really very happy with the results. I wanted the collection to be a real synergy between the two brands.”
Based in Dearborn, Michigan, Carhartt is a privately held, family-owned company, still owned by the descendants of founder Hamilton Carhartt. Carhartt WIP serves as a platform for the label’s collaborations, which recently have included Marni, New Balance and Liberty London.
Abe herself is no stranger to collaborations, and was the first designer to be tapped by Jean-Paul Gaultier to design his first guest designer couture collection. A Nike creative partner since 2015, Sacai also debuted a Nike Air Footscape sneaker during the runway show.
