For her second collaboration with Timex, Los Angeles-based designer Jacquie Aiche took inspiration from the captivating beauty of the sunrise to create the face of the watch. Known for her California-informed layered pieces like belly chains, finger bracelets, inlaid eye and hieroglyphic name pendants, Aiche’s designs have been worn by Rihanna and Dua Lipa, among others.
Commenting on origins of the design partnership in an exchange with WWD, Aiche said, “Timex is actually a beautiful and endearing story, my dad had nine spine surgeries in a year and a half, and my life kind of stopped. I sat with him at the hospital the whole time, and after every surgery, he would jump out of bed and say, ‘I’m like a Timex watch, I keep on ticking.'”
During his eighth surgery, Aiche received an unexpected email, inquiring about her potential interet in collaborating with Timex. “Every Timex watch we sell is reminiscent of a small, heartfelt note dedicated to my father,” she added.
Priced at $375, Timex and Aiche’s Sunrise watch will be available for purchase on timex.com and jacquieaiche.com on August 24, 2023.
